Night Stalker: The Hunt For A Serial Killer

Because of the wide-ranging nature of the crimes committed, and with a clear lack of a victim "type," the Night Stalker terrorized Los Angeles for months. Gun sales went through the roof and individuals who had never considered locking their doors, sealed their entryways and windows (even during that summer's wild heat wave). A robust selection of archived news clips which feature concerned citizens discussing their fears for themselves and their communities clearly demonstrates the way this serial killer dominated the collective consciousness.

Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer

In the upcoming Netflix four-part documentary series Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer, premiering January 13, the viewer is taken on a wild ride alongside two brilliant detectives as they meticulously investigate a multitude of crime scenes that at first appear to be unrelated. Top-notch police work and dogged persistence will eventually connect these crimes and bring Richard Ramirez, one of the most notorious serial killers in American history, to justice but police will have to solve a string of crimes before they can stop a murderer.

In this Netflix crime series, two homicide detectives, Gil Carrillo and Frank Salerno race against time to nab the Night Stalker for committing close to 15 heinous murders and sexual assaults. This limited docu-series hauntingly shows how the homicide investigators decode the murders and hunt down the serial killer to bring him to justice. It includes detailed accounts of their interactions with Ramirez, chilling archival footage, upsettingly graphic crime scenes and eerie cinematography.

Catching Killers follows the enthralling stories of police officers and prosecuting attorneys as they dive deep into the murder cases, solve them and hunt down the killers to imprison them. Each of the ten episodes showcase two stories of diverse murder cases from around the globe

Richard Ramirez, dubbed 'the Night Stalker' by the press, was an American serial killer who murdered at least 13 people and sexually assaulted 11 people in Los Angeles and San Francisco between June 1984 and August 1985.

True crime has taken over the interest of millions, with podcasts, movies, documentaries, and TV shows following the stories of real-life monsters and their victims. Richard Ramirez, famously known as the Night Stalker, was a serial rapist and killer whose crimes took place in the mid 1980s. Known for his obsession with the devil and the uncertainty and fear he brought upon Los Angeles, California, Richard Ramirez has gone down as one of the most infamous serial killers from The United States.

While one side of Los Angeles, California is living a luxurious lifestyle, the other side is living in fear of a serial killer and rapist going amongst the town. Night Stalker: The Hunt For A Serial Killer starts out by showing the two parallels that Los Angeles was experiencing at this time.

While Richard Ramirez isn't the first serial killer to exist, his way of doing such was much different than detectives had ever seen. He was assaulting young children, raping women of all ages, letting some victims leave, and murdering others in various ways.

Detectives share on Night Stalker: The Hunt For A Serial Killer how hard it was to escape the case. The residents of Los Angeles lived in fear as they had constant coverage of the serial killer on the loose. It was difficult to relax after a long day of work when the entire town was talking about the killer in town.

CHENNAI: The world has lived with serial killers for centuries, and one of the earliest ones to have been recorded but was never caught is Jack the Ripper, who is alleged to have been largely active in London's Whitechapel district in 1888. Eventually, he became part of folklore and rumours.

In the summer of 1985, Los Angeles was also terrorized by a serial rapist and murderer, who broke into homes through open windows and doors at night, and before the cops could catch him, 13 men, women and children had fallen prey to him. Sometimes he used a hammer, sometimes a knife, sometimes a telephone cord for strangulation and on occasions had a meal from the refrigerator after he had finished with his bloody business.

At one point Salerno discusses the necessity of "maintaining an even strain" during a high-profile hunt for a serial killer, and mentions that it helped him and Carrillo that he'd gone through it before with a similar case (the Hillside Strangler case, a decade earlier). The sequence in which Ramirez is apprehended begins at a Greyhound bus depot where Ramirez immediately "makes" the undercover cops posing as homeless people; the partners walk us through why that happened without sapping the incident of suspense. And both partners get emotional recalling interviews with various survivors of Ramirez's predations, even after three and a half decades.

Premiering Jan. 13 on Netflix, Night Stalker tells its four-episode tale through the prism of L.A. County detectives Gil Carrillo and Frank Salerno, the former a rising star who was honored to be partnered with the latter, who by 1985 was famous throughout the city for having brought to justice another notorious serial killer: the Hillside Strangler. In extended new interviews, Carrillo and Salerno serve as de facto narrators for this story of the Night Stalker, who became known to authorities on March 17, 1985, when 34-year-old Dayle Okazaki was shot dead, in point-blank style, and her roommate Maria Hernandez narrowly escaped the same fate when a bullet ricocheted off the keys in her raised-to-her-face hands. When news broke of a second homicide (of 30-year-old Tsai-Lian Yu) committed on the same night, and with the same .22 caliber gun, and then another double-murder (of Maxine and Vincent Zazzara) took place ten days later, Carrillo began to suspect that a serial fiend was on the loose. 041b061a72
