If your Mac uses USB-C to charge, you can charge your Mac laptop with any USB-C power adapter or display. You can safely use a power adapter or display with higher or lower wattage than the adapter included with your Mac. For the best charging experience, you should use the power adapter and cable included with your MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or MacBook.

It can connect directly to a tablet USB-C port, and also ships with a 0.5 meter USB-C cable if you want to use it with a MacBook. And if your iPad is in a protective case, the cable will mean the hub can still connect to the tablet.

You might not think a desktop Mac needs a hub, but the 24in iMac is quite lacking, having either just two Thunderbolt ports on the entry-level model or two Thunderbolt and two USB-C at the top-end. These ports are also all hidden away at the back, which can mean snaking cables all over your desk.

The adapters and cables in this article work with Mac computers with Thunderbolt 4 ports, Thunderbolt 3 ports, or a USB-C port. If your Mac only has one port, it doesn't support Thunderbolt connections.

If you're using a USB-A cable with your device, use a USB-C to USB-A adapter like the Apple USB-C to USB Adapter, the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, or the Apple USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter to connect your device to your Mac.

If you're using an Ethernet cable with your device, use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter, such as the Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. If your Mac has an Ethernet port, you can connect your Ethernet cable without an adapter.

If you're using a Mini DisplayPort cable with your display, use a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort cable, such as the mophie USB-C Cable with Mini DisplayPort Connector. Check with its manufacturer for compatibility with your Mac and display model.

If you're using an HDMI cable with your display, use the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter or other USB-C to HDMI adapter or cable. If your Mac has an HDMI port, you can connect your display to your Mac without an adapter.

Apple has offered USB-C to Lightning cables for a while, but the Watch has always been an outlier. If you want to shell out $30, you can now carry around just a USB-C wall charger to connect your phone or your watch.

The USB - C cable charging cable that came with MacBook air when I plug it into the monitor - it doesn't detect any display. So I guess the shipped in charger cable along with MacBook doesn't support data transmission.

A USB-C video cable like this one would be your best bet for an easy connection. That will send video from your Mac to the display, and also enable you to connect USB peripherals like a keyboard or mouse to the USB-A ports on the side.

Belkin's Thunderbolt 3 Dock Mini HD ($139.99) is a compact (0.8 by 5.1 by 3.1 inches) docking station with 6.8-inch cable that provides a USB 3.0 Type-A port, a USB 2.0 port, a gigabit Ethernet port, and two HDMI ports supporting 4K resolution at 60Hz. (M1-based MacBooks only support a single external monitor, not dual extended displays, through the Thunderbolt 3 port.)

The Corsair TBT100 Thunderbolt 3 Dock ($259.99) turns a Thunderbolt 3 port into nine ports and slots: two data-only USB-C and two data-only USB-A ports, two DisplayPort outputs supporting a 4K signal at 60Hz, a gigabit Ethernet port, a headset audio jack, and an SD card reader, plus a Kensington security-cable notch to keep your docking station tethered to your desk.

Its 10Gbps USB-C interface isn't as fast as a laptop's internal PCI Express connection, but J5Create's model JCD552 M.2 NVMe USB-C Gen 2 Docking Station ($149.99) is a unique way to expand your MacBook's storage: The 1-by-12.5-by-3.1-inch gray and black aluminum dock has a compartment for an NVMe or SATA M.2 solid-state drive (up to size 2280; not included). It connects to your laptop using two USB-C cables and offers 100 watts of Power Delivery pass-through.

The docking station has 4K DisplayPort and HDMI video outputs, a gigabit Ethernet port, SD and microSD card slots, and three USB Type-A ports (one 5Gbps and two 10Gbps) in addition to the M.2 SSD slot. A security cable lock slot keeps it from walking away from your desk.

Even after placing your cables neatly in your bag, it's easy to wind up with a tangled clump of cables. The built-in velcro cable strap helps prevent this, keeping your gig bag nice and tidy. You'll wonder how you managed without this.

This mouse connects via Bluetooth and recharges with an included USB-C to Lightning cable. It's important to note that you can't use the Magic Mouse 2 while it charges since the charging port is on the bottom of the mouse. However, Apple advertises a battery life of up to a month or more, so it isn't an issue you'll need to contend with daily. It has a quick-charge feature, so two minutes of charging gives you around nine hours of use, which will get you through the workday without too much disruption.

The scroll wheel is made of metal and feels very precise when scrolling. You can also toggle a free-scrolling mode for scrolling through content much faster. This mouse connects wirelessly with Bluetooth and can pair with up to three devices simultaneously. It recharges with a standard USB-C cable, and Logitech advertises that a fully charged battery can last up to 70 days. You can also reprogram buttons and set movement-based gesture controls with the software.

However, the main difference with the 3S, the most recent entry to this lineup, is that this mouse has quieter click buttons and an improved sensor that's more compatible with high-resolution displays. It also has a Mac-specific variant with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable to be more compatible with newer MacBooks that lack USB-A ports. The Mac variant has a slightly different color scheme, and it comes with default gesture controls that are Mac-specific, like opening the Launchpad and switching between apps. You can also use the companion software to program profiles for specific apps, like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, so you can easily control the brush size, Undo/Redo, and image panning using the buttons right on the mouse.

David, thanks for the response, I should start at the beginning, I have an older Cables 2 Go USB2Serial cable and my research indicated that the driver I needed was this one. It works on a windows PC but since I use a MAC most of the time I was trying to get it to work. However, I have since ordered a plugable adapter and I think it should be here today and I am sure that will solve my problem. I will keep you posted.

The TetherBoost Pro System provides consistent power to maintain a stable connection for tethered image transfer when using a DSLR or medium-format digital back system connected to a computer via USB 3.0 cables. This streamlined solution alleviates current frustrations among photographers experiencing dropped signals when shooting with USB 3.0 cameras and computers. Works like a charm!I know it's pricey but I love my 30" Cinema Display.I also got my old MOTU Firewire audio interface with apples TB3 to T2 and then TB2 to FW and an additional FW cable from Belkin to run.

The adapter is plugged into one of the MBPs four USB-C ports, and of course the Cinema Display's DVI plug is plugged into the adapter. There's no need to connect the ACD's USB-A cable (unless you want to use its USB ports as a hub).

New Solution! January 2020: I have the 30" Cinema Display connected to new a new MacBook Pro 16" at full resolution and all controls can be accessed. This requires the Apple DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter and this thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort/Thunderbolt 2 adapter that has full support for video up to 4K @60hz. =ppx_pop_mob_ap_shareThis $20 adapter seems to recreate a fully functional Thunderbolt 2 port like the older MacBook Pro's had. The Apple Thunderbolt 2 to DVI adapter must have it's USB cable plugged in to power its conversion electronics. If it doesn't immediately sense the Cinema Display unplug the power cord from the small cord from the Cinema Display power supply, wait a few seconds then pug it back in. Mine worked perfectly after that. It is instant sleep and instant on.

Macs with only USB-C Ports:These models will require the use of a USB hub or adapter for connection. For additional information on USB-C ports and adapters, contact Apple Support.Macs with M1 and Newer Chips and USB-C Ports:Automotive devices with Mini or Micro USB ports must use a USB-C to USB-A adapter along with the appropriate USB-A to Mini-USB or USB-A to Micro-USB cable provided with the device.
